CROWN : A crown (cap) is a covering made to restore a tooth back to health and function. When teeth are damaged from decay, weak from large old fillings, worn or broken down, post root canal treatment, crowns can be used to give you back healthy beautiful teeth.
BRIDGES : In case if a permanent tooth is lost the neighbouring teeth are affected. Because of the support and chewing forces exerted, the adjacent teeth will begin to drift. This causes further breakdown in the dental arch. Bridgework can be implemented in such cases wherein the missing tooth is replaced with the support of adjacent natural teeth.
Myth : An extracted tooth need not be artificially replaced!
Fact : A tooth however badly decayed should be tried to be saved. However, if it has to be removed, it must be replaced as soon as possible. If the tooth is not replaced, then gradually the teeth adjacent to the gap will start tilting towards this gap leading to food collection. Opposite tooth also grows down causing similar problems in the opposite arch teeth too. Therefore, a lost tooth must be replaced within maximum of 6 months not only for the aesthetic purposes but for stability of adjacent and opposing teeth and gums.
Few people want to have their teeth extracted just to look better. But when restoring the teeth is impossible because there is simply not enough tooth structure left, dentures are an alternative.
It is important from a cosmetic standpoint, however, that you need not allow too much time to lag between tooth loss and tooth replacement. Tooth loss causes the face to collapse and the mouth to sink in. At the same time, the nose appears to drop down towards the chin. Deep lines begin to from in the creases of this collapses skin, adding years to the face.
Full dentures can make you look younger because there is almost no limit to what the dentist can create with them.
Afull-mouth reconstruction is a challenging treatment modality that corrects imperfections in bite position and enhances the appearance of the smile. The entire dentition is rehabilitated during a full-mouth reconstruction. The restorative dentist needs to thoroughly understand every aspect of the dentition, its relationship to the temporo-mandibular joints, and the functional interactions of the masticatory muscles. Age, illness, or accidents can sometimes lead to extreme tooth loss. When a patient experiences the loss of several teeth, your dentist may recommend a full-mouth rehabilitation to correct the problem.
WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Implants are artificial tooth roots (screws), made of pure titanium or titanium-alloy, which are inserted (anchored) into the jaw, where they perform the function of the natural tooth that has been lost.
WHERE IT CAN BE PLACED?
It can be placed wherever teeth are missing. It can be for a single tooth , multiple teeth by an implant supported partial or full arch fixed bridge, all teeth replaced with a implant supported removable overdenture.
HOW IMPLANTS CAN BE DONE?
The first stage is a surgical phase which involves the placement of the titanium implant in the jaw bone. This is followed by a healing resting phase of 3-6 months. The second stage is the restorative/prosthetic phase, where the tooth is placed over the anchored implant using it as a support/pillar.
Just the mere words "Root Canal' used to fill the toothache sufferers with fear & dread. Root canal isNOT PAINFULL when properly performed in a tooth that has yet not reached the part of becoming a painfull emergency. RCT is needed when a tooths nerve and associated blood vessels are irreversibly damaged either by trauma or tooth decay.
This results in infection that may lead to an abscess. At Ruparelia Dental Clinic, RCT is performed by skilled hands(More than 15 years experience of Root Canal Treatment), using rotary and hand instruments, apex locator, necessary medicaments and the latest techniques for root canal cleaning, shaping and filling. Treatment may involve one or two appointments to complete the entire root canal procedure. In todays competent world cosmetics and aesthetics play a highly important role. As the saying goes "NEVER STOP SMILING" because you never know who's falling in love with your smile !! Some treatment modalities that can enhance your smile are :
DIASTEMA CLOSURE (SPACES BETWEEN TEETH) A diastema is a space between your front teeth. They can be closed by either composite laminates in one sitting or by veneers. Veneers are wafer thin shells of porcelain which are bonded onto the front surface of teeth. Veneers can also be an excellent cosmetic solution for crooked, chipped, discoloured or worn teeth.
BONDING A crack, mild discolouration, white spots on front teeth, all can be restored by bonding, a chair side procedure involving tooth coloured composite material. One can even replace their old silver fillings with composites as well as their existing cavities.
TOOTH JEWELLERY A brilliant and painless way to add sparkle to your smile is by fixing a jewel on your anterior tooth surface. A jewel has no side effects except for the increased charm of your smile ! It is available in various colours and sizes.
TEETH WHITENING / BLEACHING Discoloured teeth can be lightened with our chairside as well as home bleaching products. Depending on the case the material best suited for the patient will be provided.
In some cases, a post is place into the root next to the gutta-percha. This gives the crown more support.
DENTAL CARE FOR CHILDREN
Many parents think it is"fultile to spend on maintainance of milk teeth when they are finally to be replaced by permanent ones' - An absolute wrong notion. Baby teeth are extremely important for healthy nutrition, proper speech and alignment of permanent teeth. Consult your dentist if you observe, blackened chipped baby teeth, white spots, delayed eruption of permanent teeth or oral habits like thumbsucking, lip biting, mouth breathing etc.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
When permanent teeth are developing, depressions and grooves form on the chewing surfaces of teeth. These are called pits and fissures. They serve as potential traps for food and bacteria making the teeth suceptible for decay. Therefore as a preventive measure certain pits and fissures are sealed with the help of sealants. A sealant is a clear shade plastic material applied chairside.
WHAT ARE DENTAL FILLINGS?
If your tooth is having decay (cavity), your dentist removes the decay & the resultant cavity is filled by specialized material. It is used to restore the function, integrity & morphology of missing tooth structure. There have been lots of advances in modern dentistry that make this process much more comfortable and materials that are used are safer and more esthetically pleasing
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF DENTAL FILLINGS?
Mainly there are two types 1. Silver Amalgam (Silver + Mercury) 2. Composite Resin (tooth colored) Many other types of filling materials are also being used by the dentists depending on specific requirements like Glass Ionomer, certain dental cements etc.
COMPOSITE RESIN (LIGHT CURE FILLING)
In Modern dentistry Composite Resin is preferred as it is having sufficient strength, is of tooth color & easy to handle. It has got excellent finishing & polishing & various shades are available making it look very natural. Disadvantages are its technique sensitivity, tendency to discolor over long period of time. If not done properly, can result in post filling sensitivity.
Amalgam has been widely used for direct fillings, mainly for posterior teeth, but because of certain disadvantages like its metallic color, taste, leaching out of mercury, tendency to shrink & corrode, the tooth has unaesthetic appearance hence, it is less preferred by the patients & dentists.
GLASS IONOMER CEMENT
This material has a specialized use especially in milk teeth cavities & non stress bearing areas. Advantage is that it is white colored & release fluorides which help in controlling secondary caries but it doesn't have sufficient strength. Material is difficult to handle & requires absolute dry field. It cannot be immediately finished & polished hence, requires another sitting.
Myth : Dental treatment is extremely painful!
Fact : Not anymore because of the advent of extremely effective local anesthetic and better technology.

Myth : Extraction of a tooth can lead to loss of vision!
Fact : There is no relation between extraction of a tooth and loss of vision. If this were true, patients who have had all their teeth removed should be totally blind.
DISIMPACTION OF WISDOM MOLARS
The oral cavity often harnesses teeth which, due to certain developmental difficulties, do not erupt in their right place. They often remain dormant inside the bone. However, when they pose a problem due to the forces they exert or when they become foci of infection, their removal is their only cure.
The most common impactions are seen in cases of wisdom teeth (third molars). Sometimes, even canines or other teeth might be found impacted in one's mouth.
Each individual wisdom tooth is unique and depending on how it grows, it can have different impact on bones and/or tissues. Their varied developments may effect other teeth and cause troubles. When they need to be removed, experts from Shah Dental Clinic are the ones who can easily help you.
If the impaction is between the third molar and part of the second molar, this kind is called bone impaction. It can subcategorized into vertical, horizontal, and angular depending on the way they are intersecting. If the wisdom tooth is directly breaking out of the tissue, it is known as tissue impaction.
The following four impactions are commonly found in patients :
Bone Impaction (Vertical)
Impaction would cause pathosis inside the cheek bone or jaw bone.
Bone Impaction (Horizontal)
Besides leading pathosis, horizontal placement would hurt the hard tissue of the second molar to cause toothache and cavities.
Bone Impaction (Angular)
Besides leading pathosis, angular placement would hurt the hard tissue of the second molar to cause toothache and cavities
The wisdom tooth almost erupts out of gum, or its half erupts out of gum to cause pseudo-pocket. Besides leading pathosis, it easily tracts food debris and causes gum irritation.

" If I clean my teeth, there will be spaces created and they will loosen up"- A terrible misconception that people have related to scaling (cleaning ) of teeth. As a matter of fact the reverse is true!!
More than 90 million suffer from chronic halitosis or bad breath. Mouth contains variety of bacteria that form a sticky film called plaque. Bacteria create toxins which irritate the gums and subsequently affect the bone anchoring the tooth. Plaque if not removed, it hardens into a rough porous deposit called calculus which has to be removed by a dentist. You should consult your doctor if you detect any of the following:
Scaling at Ruparelia Dental Cinic is done with the help of ultrasonic scalers with every patient having a new autoclavable tip!
Myth : Cleaning of teeth by the dentist leads to loss of enamel leading to sensitivity of teeth in the future!
Fact : Cleaning of teeth by the dentist is done using a very blunt instrument, which vibrates at a high speed to loosen only the dirt which has collected around the tooth. This instrument in no way scratches the enamel. Yes, the teeth may become a little loose and sensitive immediately after cleaning but this may be temporary and usually becomes normal in a week's time.
Myth : must not brush my teeth if my gums bleed.
Fact : Bleeding gums is a sign to see your dentist. However, if you cannot do this as soon as possible, you can brush your teeth with a soft or extra soft toothbrush.
Myth : cleaning of teeth leads to loosening of teeth
Fact : cleaning of teeth helps us to eliminate infection and is good for stability of teeth. After cleaning patient may feel the space between the teeth and some loosening as the tartar occupies the natural space between the teeth and our tongue is used to this tartar. Once it is removed by the dentist, our sensitive tongue immediately feels the gap
If periodontal disease ( disease of gums) is not treated in the early stage it progresses slowly and painlessly destroying the bone supporting the teeth. In most advanced stages flap or gum surgery is recommended.
Flap surgery is an absolutely painless procedure done under local anaesthesia to temporarily separate the gums from the teeth giving the periodontist access to the roots of the teeth and their supporting bone. This access allows removal of diseased tissues, plaque and tartar which are considered to be the causative factors for periodontitis(pyorrhea)
